Top 5 Multi-Platform Games of the Decade

Per their post this morning, Wired's Game Life blog has ruled Left 4 Dead 2 the top multi-platform game of the 2000's. To put it their way:

"With development budgets at an all-time high, game publishers have found that spreading their biggest, baddest titles across as many platforms as possible is the best way to make back their money."

And while the site's top multi-plaform releases are the following 5 picks:
5. Borderlands (360, PS3, PC)
4. The Beatles: Rock Band (360, PS3, Wii)
3. Batman: Arkham Asylum (360, PS3, PC)
2. Assassin’s Creed II (360, PS3)
1. Left 4 Dead 2 (360, PC)

We think the best multi-platform game of the decades is called Decades. It comes playable for iPhone, Android devices, PC, and Facebook and it's out (SMERC's) widest release yet. Check it out!

"Face"-ing Up To PS3

Here's some news that we (the producers of three supremely awesome Facebook games) are quite giddy about the possibility of: murmurs in the video game blog-o-sphere seem to be speculating that the PS3 system may soon become Facebook-enabled.

The gossip has apparently been triggered by three errant images that appeared on PlayStation's website yesterday and that depicted Facebook running on PS3's XCrossMediaBar. Here they are for your own consideration:

Though the snapshots have been pulled down since leaking, Sony UK PR has responded to the snafu by saying that official news on the subject will be arriving "very shortly".

So basically, it seems like the company was giving the images a test run on their web building software and accidentally uploaded the content. Pretty good accident, we think, as it has garnered some unintended publicity for the forthcoming announcement and subsequently given a little heat to XBox 360, who have already officially demoed both Facebook and Twitter for their console.

Clever dealings Sony, clever indeed. You can read a bit more here: GameSpy

And The Hits Just Keep On Coming

All week, we've been reporting about the rocky terrain in virtual instrument gaming these days (see here and here) well, today, Activision, despite the fray, has decided to push forward with the addition of three new bands to their Rock Band Music Store.

The White Stripes, Kasabian, and legendary band The Damned will all have tracks available for purchase through XBox 360, PS3, and Wii next week and we can only hope that none of these acts find fault with the silly Rock Band avatars we'll all make up to sing their songs (although, we have tried very hard to keep our Rock Band style of dress pretty slick).

The individual tracks should run you about $2 a pop and a full package of tracks should square off around $4.50. Seems like a solid deal to us. You can check out the full announcement via VG247.

Playstation and Netflix Mate

Since we seem to be unable to avoid this topic in the blog-o-sphere, we're going to just mention it, PlayStation is finally following in the foot steps of XBox by partnering with Netflix.

The partnership is an offshoot of the subscription service's regular program where members get to receive an on going stream of films for a fixed monthly price. In this case, the Netflix/PlayStation combo will set you back $8.99 a month and get you films stream-able through the system to your television without a monthly limit, as well as the regular shipment of DVD's Netflix members get.

And just in case the goal of this merger is unclear, Jack Tretton, president and CEO, of SCEA has the following to say:

“The PlayStation 3 system has always been about more than just gaming, and it will soon be the only platform in the industry to offer consumers such a variety of convenient options for enjoying movies and TV shows. Whether you want to watch content on Blu-ray disc and DVD, download it from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, or stream videos instantly from Netflix, the PS3 system is the only solution that offers it all.”

A set date for the service has yet to been announced. Check out the full press release via PlayStation blog.
